Travelling out of season meant that we could explore the island in greater comfort than would be the case during the peak spring and summer months.

 The roads were generally quieter, except for Palma (but I guess the same could be said for any capital) and were generally of good standard, providing you remained vigilant to the large potholes that could catch you out!

During a six day period we managed to notch up around 1000km in smallish car, which turned out to be the right size for the narrow mountainous roads and when parking in towns or around our hotel. Car hire on the island is much cheaper than many other parts of Europe.

From the lighthouse situated at Punta de Capdepera just outside of Cala Rajada it was possible to see the island of Menorca glistening in the sunshine and to make out parts of the coastline without the aid of binoculars.
