Day 7
A wonderful and varied day was had as we headed off for our first port of call, the Revelstoke Railway
Museum. This is a must for anyone interested in Railways and Canadian History and gives a fascinating insight to the fantastic engineering feats accomplished during the
late 19th and early 20th century.
We then drove over to Revelstoke Dam situated 4km north of the town on Highway 23 to take a tour of the Generating Station, one of
North America's largest and most modern hydroelectric developments.
By mid afternoon, Lynn wanted something a little more scenic than heavy engineering (!!) so we set
off south along Highway 23 to Galena Bay. This was an excellent excursion, which took in a half-hour FREE ferry trip across the bay and on to the Halcyon Hot Springs for
a much needed relation dip in the delightfully warm pools and taking in the fantastic backdrop as the evening sun started to wane.
After a meal and drinks on a balcony
overlooking the pools, we set off for Revelstoke and watched the sun set across Galena Bay whilst waiting for the ferry. Overall, some 200km drive that day.
A
really memorable day that was topped off by finding a WiFi hotspot near Revelstoke at 23:00hrs which enabled me to check and reply to e-mails (I know, what a sad person I
am!).
