Day 4 (Denali to Talkeetna)
We set off after breakfast for a natural history tour into part of Denali National
Park. The driver of the park bus had an obvious sense of humour which was evident throughout his running commentary, maintaining a watch for bears and moose and telling
jokes!
We stopped off at a log cabin to have a reinactment by a young man of life in that part of the world during the early 1940's. The drive then continued up into the hills
where the forest gave way to permafrost ground. A further stop was made to hear about life from a first nation perspective, whilst taking in the otherwise peaceful
setting. Alas, after returning to the McKinley Park Resorts, this tour had still not enabled us to see any moose or bear!
After lunch we travelled back by motor coach to
Talkeetna arriving at the Alaskan Lodge around tea-time. The journey was excellent and accompanied by a lot of laughter, particularly
during a drawing game run by our Tour Director Jesse called 'Moose Migration' - it produced some very funny pictures!
That night we were rewarded with some excellent views from the lodge of Mounts McKinley, Foraker and Hunter as the sun was setting.
