Retirement has now given me the opportunity to expand on one of my computing interests, namely web design. I now manage a number of web sites, both personal, business and
community.
The latter was a recent development as I have lived in my village for close on 25 years and the idea of expanding my interests by running the village web site
appealed to me. Grateley.Com is my first excursion into the rapidly expanding content management system market. The concept is a radical move away from customised
web software installed on a single PC, which I use for all my other sites, to one where the system resides on a Linux based server and can be updated from any computer around the
world, with the appropriate assigned access rights.
I find there are many enjoyable aspects to Web Design, such as artistic presentation, expansion of graphical
skills, research and communication for others to enjoy or find helpful. It is a great aid to memory retention and developing logical connections, attention to detail being a
key aspect if the site is to be informative and interesting.
The only downside to web design is, that it can be addictive and you spend too much time at the
computer. Which is why I need my other half to keep me in check!
